Mirror and head checks #402
What is the best way to ride a motorcycle?
Ride so you have a clear picture of what is happening around you.
Firstly you need to enjoy your ride on two wheels, keeping to the 2-4 second rule when following traffic removes many unnecessary risks and secondly, avoid a bad day by understanding your surroundings with head and mirror checks done regularly.
It takes practice to regularly check your mirrors and scan the road ahead, but doing so will result in fewer close calls, near misses and positioning errors.
Do you ride as though you're blindfolded?
Riding and not even aware of your surroundings, not seeing anything but the rear bumper of the vehicle you are following?
Or do you ride and know what is around you?
Are you aware of vehicles pulling out of side roads ahead, a vehicle behind you speeding up, or a merge coming up?
